Lake Brandt Greenway & Weaver Bridge ~ 0.5 acres, Guilford County
Guilford Greene Homeowners Association. Donation of
Conservation Easement.
In 1996, PLC in partnership with the City of Greensboro, Guilford County, and Starmount Corporation began construction of a greenway to help connect Guilford Courthouse National Military Park with Guilford County’s Bur-Mil Park. PLC’s facilitation of discussions between the homeowner’s association and City of Greensboro led to the donation of a greenway easement along an old railroad corridor to the City. Once the land was secured for the greenway, PLC continued working with our partners to clear the land for the trail and to raise the funds necessary to replace a burned out railroad trestle bridge with a 140-foot long pedestrian bridge of Lake Brandt.
Today Lake Brandt Greenway provides safe recreation in a
natural setting within the city limits of Greensboro. The greenway and bridge
are used by hundreds of walkers, joggers and bicyclists every day as a vital
connection between several parks and 30 miles of lake trails. Additionally,
Lake Brandt Greenway will serve as one of the endpoints of the proposed
Piedmont Regional Greenway.
Project funding provided by the Weaver Foundation, Guilford County, City of Greensboro, and Guy M. Turner, Inc.
