Piedmont Regional Greenway Initiative

Forsyth and Guilford Counties

With funding support provided through the Piedmont Land Conservancy’s first Capital Campaign, “Saving Piedmont Lands”, PLC contracted with Greenways, Inc. to develop a master plan for a regional greenway to connect Guilford and Forsyth Counties through Triad Regional Park.  The completed master plan proposes a 19-mile greenway corridor available for hikers and bicyclists that will connect into existing city and county greenway systems.

As the Piedmont Regional Greenway will serve multiple communities, the project has been broken down into smaller segments.  The staff of Forsyth County, Guilford County, Winston-Salem, Kernersville, and Greensboro will each be leading the charge for these various segments while PLC will play a supporting role through the facilitation of partner meetings, raising public awareness and support for the project, and providing technical guidance as appropriate.  While it will take several years to complete this project, its public benefits in terms of recreational and educational opportunities for Triad residents will be quantifiable as each segment is completed.

Although none of the proposed segments of the Piedmont Regional Greenway have been completed to date, the Piedmont Regional Greenway will connect into the following PLC conservation success stories.

Lake Brandt Greenway

Guilford Courthouse National Military Park Expansion
