Instructor Bio: Adam Paashaus

As a young child growing up in The Catskill Mountains of New York state, I spent a lot of time running around the miles of wilderness in my backyard. I was always on the lookout for the perfect paradise landscape. It wasn’t until I moved to North Carolina and started exploring the Southern Appalachians with camera in hand that I began to see the landscape with new eyes and found that paradise was there all along waiting to be discovered wherever I went. I began trying to capture and translate what I saw onto film.

Over the last 15 years I’ve been all over the U.S. and some of my favorite locations to shoot are the Southern Appalachians, the Sierra Nevada, the southern Utah desert, and the Rockies in Wyoming and Colorado.

Photography, for me, is a way to showcase the beautiful world around me weather its my kids or a natural hot spring in Yellowstone (or both at the same time). In this accessible world of digital photography it is my belief that its more important than ever to make a statement in our photographs in order to make a lasting impact.

‘Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.’
-Henry David Thoreau
