Piedmont Land Conservancy 2nd Saturday Outings & Events

Piedmont Land Conservancy hosts various events, including Second Saturday outings, that are designed to connect people with nature. Outings include hikes, farm visits, paddle trips and more. Events include our annual bluegrass concert (Land Jam) as well as volunteer days, workshops, partner events, and a new nature book and film club. web1_FAITH-ROCK-7667_edit-webNEW OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE: Fridays at Faith Rock – Trail Building Opportunities for Everyone

Take a Friday afternoon off this spring and enjoy some time outside creating a last impact for all to enjoy! Help build a new trail at Faith Rock Natural Area in Randolph County on Fridays in April from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Bring gloves, boots, appropriate clothing, water and a snack. All tools will be provided. Meet at entrance to property on Faith Rock Road 1/2 mile from Andrew Hunter Road. You will enjoy being outdoors while learning about the remarkable Revolutionary War history of this special place. Faith Rock is a Natural Heritage Site as well as a County Cultural Heritage Site. PLC acquired Faith Rock last year and is transferring the property to the Town of Franklinville for use as a natural area park and a connector from the Deep River Trail, a rail trail which runs along the Deep River.

Green Reads: Nature Book & Film Club — meets at Price Park in Guilford County, in the community room of the Kathleen Clay Edwards Family branch library. Next meeting: Wednesday, April 26, 7-8pm. We will view TED talks on plastic usage and waste across the globe, as well as explore solutions.

Forsyth County Creek Week — PLC is participating in Forsyth County’s annual Creek Week, dedicated to helping people of all ages learn about the importance of our local waterways.

Second Saturday Outing, April 8, 2017, 10am-2pm — 
Open Garden Day at the Emily H. Allen Wildflower Preserve, FriendshiDavid-2-Image004p Garden in Forsyth County. Time slots of 30 minutes are available between 10am and 1:30pm, and you must reserve space in order to tour the garden. This event is free, although donations are always welcome to support the garden and its ongoing maintenance and programs.

“Earth Day Eve” Hike at Knight Brown Nature Preserve, Friday, April 21, 2017, 6:00-8:00pm — Join us for a special guided hike and other fun activities (eco-crafts, PLC show-and-tell table) on the EVE of the most wonderful day of the year as we celebrate planet Earth and all of its bounty, especially what’s right here in our region! PLC’s Knight Brown Nature Preserve offers three loops of trails encompassing about three miles, and we’ll unveil plans for our newest trail which might already be under construction by then. We might even have a surprise in store for you on this evening – but you have to attend to find out. This event is free, although donations are always welcome to support the preserve and its ongoing maintenance and programs.
