Join us Tuesday, October 10th for the opening celebration of Faith Rock Preserve in Franklinville.
Â
Faith Rock is a 13-acre preserve that includes a bluestone outcrop on the Deep River and is also a designated Randolph County Historic Landmark. It is the setting for one of Randolph County’s most legendary Revolutionary War incidents involving the notorious Tory guerrilla David Fanning, local Patriot hero Andrew Hunter, and a horse named Bay Doe. Learn more about the history of Faith Rock hereand see a video slideshow of Faith Rock published by the Randolph County Historic Landmark Preservation Committee here.
Â
We will be celebrating the permanent preservation of Faith Rock as it officially becomes a Town of Franklinville Nature Preserve with a ¾ mile loop walking trail that includes outstanding views of the Deep River from the top of the rock for public enjoyment. The Faith Rock Trail will be part of the state-designated Deep River Trail.  Students from the NC Zoo School helped build the new trail.

Funding for this project was provided by the N.C. Clean Water Management Trust Fund and the N.C. Attorney General’s Office Environmental Enhancement Grant Program.
