Make a difference
Planned Giving
Planning and providing for the quality of life for future generations is one of the most important and lasting legacies anyone can leave. You can ensure a legacy of clean water, healthy family farms and protected natural lands by supporting Piedmont Land Conservancy. You can learn more about ways to achieve your goals for supporting a legacy of conservation here. Please feel free to contact PLC’s Development Director Karrie Jo Manson with any questions or to let us know you have designated Piedmont Land Conservancy as the recipient of a planned gift.
Ways You Can Make a Planned Gift
There are many ways to give to support our mission and we welcome your support in whatever way you wish to be involved. Every family’s financial situation is different. Always consult with your personal attorney or financial advisor before making major gifts to insure that you are making the most suitable arrangements for you and your family.
The following language may be helpful in setting up your legacy gift; however, we always suggest contacting your own lawyer.
An unrestricted planned gift for general use allows your donation to go to work where it is needed the most. This gives our board and staff great flexibility in doing the most good with your legacy gift.
I hereby, give, devise and bequeath $DOLLARS to Piedmont Land Conservancy, a nonprofit corporation, organized and existing under the laws of North Carolina, with principal business address of PO Box 4025, Greensboro, NC 27404, federal tax ID number is 56-1704433, for Piedmont Land Conservancy’s general use and purpose.
The purpose of the Land Protection Revolving Fund is to provide short-term financing when a highly significant land protection opportunity is in danger of being lost due to insufficient funds. Land Protection Revolving Fund money cannot be used to cover PLC staff time related to the project. Designating your gift to this fund helps ensure PLC will be able to protect important areas at any time in our normal budget cycle.

If you would like to designate your gift to another specific area please contact us so we can determine the best language to meet your giving intentions.
Outright Gifts of Assets
Your outright gift of assets is a wonderful way to help us preserve the beauty and livability of our communities. Significant gifts of assets may be given as cash, appreciated securities, real estate, or life insurance policies. Many of these types of gifts offer attractive tax advantages for donors.
Cash
An outright gift of cash is the simplest means of making a donation to Piedmont Land Conservancy Conservation Accounts. Cash gifts obviously have an important impact since they may be put to work immediately.

Real Estate | Conservation or Commercial
You may give acreage, a farm, lot, house, commercial building, or any other kind of real estate held longer than six months and receive a charitable deduction for the full market value and also avoid capital gains taxes on the profit. Gifts of real estate are subject to approval by Piedmont Land Conservancy’s Board of Directors and certain restrictions may apply.
Making PLC a beneficiary of your life insurance policy is an easy way to make a significant gift and ensure a legacy of conservation.
By making an irrevocable assignment of an insurance policy to PLC, you receive an immediate income tax deduction equal to the cash surrender value of the policy or the total of premiums paid, whichever is less. If the policy is not fully paid up, you may continue to pay the premiums and receive tax deductions for the amount of the premiums.
IRA, 401(k), 403(b), Pension
You can easily designate PLC as a whole or partial beneficiary of your IRA or other retirement asset.
